Equine Therapist
Masters-Level Qualification

Arivaca Boy’s Ranch is seeking an equine therapist to oversee our equine therapy and horse training program at our inpatient behavioral health facility.

Arivaca Boy’s Ranch is an inpatient behavioral health residential facility for teenage boys (13-17). The boys have various individual struggles including anger management, histories of trauma, substance abuse, attachment and mood disorders, and mental health diagnoses. We use equine therapy coupled with Arbinger philosophies of relationship building, as well as traditional individual, group and family therapy.

Our program is committed to providing Trauma-Informed Care principles throughout every aspect of treatment. Candidates should have a pro-active mindset and desire to facilitate success in our program. They should have a good knowledge of “Natural Horsemanship” and a disposition to work with struggling adolescent boys. It is our mission to help young men discover their greatness and potential, develop the tools to cope with life challenges, to learn to set and achieve goals, and to build productive relationships with family and peers.

Each boy in our program is assigned is own horse to train. Our goal is to help them make a connection between their horse and human relationships, to develop confidence, self-esteem, and to form a secure partnership with their horse.


  • Continue to build on our existing equine therapy program, based on natural horsemanship principles. We have an extremely effective program in place, the right candidate will be enthusiastic about learning our current structure and will bring their own strengths and knowledge to this approach.

  • Work one-on-one with our boys, help them learn basic techniques of horse training and facilitate their therapeutic journey.

  • Manage and care for equipment.

  • Help manage support staff

  • Promotes implementation of therapeutic milieu and daily program schedule.

  • Provides patient care and guidance as needed in a supportive and empathetic manner.

  • Serve as a member of our clinical team, work with our other therapists to ensure boys' therapeutic needs are met.

  • Be open to learning and implementing Arbinger principles as part of the horse training experience (Although helpful, no prior knowledge of Arbinger is necessary, the candidate will receive Arbinger training and resources upon employment)

Requirements & Experience:

  • Master's Degree in social work, psychology or related field

  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • Must be over 21 years of age

  • Must be able to obtain a level 1 clearance card

  • 3+ years of equine experience preferred

  • Experience with youth preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35k-$45k a year, negotiable depending on experience and other benefits
